I can't put my finger on it, but what's with the storytelling??

So, I watched this movie few weeks ago and I thought it was fine, sometimes stupid and with many chliches, but overall good, solid horror. But, I cannot explain it really well, there was something horribly wrong with storytelling. It simply did not feel right, it was kind of too fast then too slow, then too stupid, then... this did not work for me. It felt just... bad, amateurish. Anybody agrees with me?

Apparently, we watched totally different films...

I agree with you, it was like two different people wrote this movie, sort of disjointed. Very weird transitions between reality and fantasy and a cop-out ending (but we were warned in the beginning with the "once upon a time..." statement.) If the cgi wasn't so silly it would've been a more solid ending. It was like a blend of Blair Witch and Corpse Bride. Mama was supposed to be benevolent like aSt. Mary right? So why make her
look like a bride of chucky/corpse bride.

Mama was only benevolent to the little girls and the dog, but to those who would harm the children she was mean mean mean. The cgi and makeup made her look sort of laughable not scary. Still, such a silly ending. It had a good beginning but went south after the second half. I was, waiting for a real world explanation since there were many suspects but when the corpse bride ghost lady started becoming a real life dimensional entity not just a dream lady well it took a silly turn.
