The dog...

...didn't die, yay! For once I was pleasantly surprised.

Every time I see an animal in a horror movie I just wait for it to die. It's distracting. (And no, I don't care more about animals than humans. It's just the innocence factor that gets to me).

ha! me too. Sadly a rare thing in movies no doubt (that the dog actually lives).

Totally agree that it's distracting. You expect the whole violence on humans thing in horror movies but leave out the pets please!

"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man."

SO pleased i read your post - ive just started watching this now and nearly stopped as soon as i saw the dog for the same reason. Thank you!

Handsome provides continuity for Victoria between her pre- and post-cabin life.

Also, the first time he and Mama meet, in the girls' bedroom, he trots over to her and, though we don't see her in that scene, we hear some soothing noises. The film is probably humanizing Mama there, showing that she won't attack something she doesn't regard as a threat to the girls and her relationship with them -- and that Edith was probably a dog-lover in life.

Me too, that dog was adorable the scene where he just stood there and watched them leave the house. Then when they got back, so cute. I was waiting for the doggie death scene but thankfully it never happened! I'm a pushover for animals in film. So innocent and pure. Must go and hug my lil guy now.

There's a really handy website called doesthedogdie.com. I'm glad I checked it before watching Mama or I would have worried about the doxie the whole time!

Oh my god, I had to laugh that there's actually a website called "does the dog die" dot com!

Because I'm the same - every time I see there's a pet in a movie that's either horror or thriller, the first thought on my mind is "Oh nooooooo that dog is gonna die at some point, right?" It always happens! I'm glad when it doesn't, like in this one.

reply

Yes … it is painful to watch children or pets die in a horror film.
