I wanted to like it more

I liked a bunch of things about this film. It had a creative post-ruin dystopia setting, with a kind of unique flavor of spoiled ecosystem containing evolved plant and/or fungal life. There are some aspects of the society that didn't get enough exposition, or I missed it. There is an elite layer of people who live in protected environments with luxury and resources - not unlike Elysium. There are 'jug' creatures, humanoids created synthetically to serve these elites. There are 'pilgrims' which could have been explained more.

The created world for the setting of this film was rich, and detailed.

I struggled to keep my interest sustained at a high level all the way through this. There are a couple of twists and turns, one in particular was a pretty good ramp-up.

All in all, this is a pretty good movie if you are in the right mood for it. It's slow and heavy, thinking person's sci-fi.

This would've been a stronger film had it been released in '06, and starred Eva Green
