the ending (spoilers)

I thought it was presented in a way that that can make it easily conclude that the man died, and him reaching up towards the light and grasping an ambiguous hands was really just him being led into the after-life.... but my girlfriend didn't get that suggestion whatsoever... She just took it literally, that he was simply saved at the last second by a another boater.

Then again, i felt the exact same thing in Gravity.... that she died, and all her visions of George Clooney and whatnot was just her dying mind conjuring up peaceful things to make her journey to the afterlife/death more pleasant.

what say you? Did anyone else think this?

I wasn't sure about the ending..at first I thought he got saved, but after reading posts from others, I can see that he had died. He sank really low in the ocean without making any moves at all. Seems like he may have even been too far down to see the light above...

They said the ending is up to the viewers imagination, so go with whatever you want the ending to be. I like the idea he was rescued so that's the ending I am going with!

I disagree about the ending of "Gravity". She landed in a body of water somewhere in the world...if she had died, they would have had her end up more dramatically, and maybe show her daughter in some way.

It's up to the viewer. Personally, I think it was Charon. Since he was in a boat.
