On one of the first nights (after he's repaired his boat) the character pours 2 glasses of a yellow substance and guzzles it down.
1.) Why is he storing his own urine at that point, when there's cans of food and stuff (which probably contain SOME water) around
and
2.) Why doesn't he wait until he's really dehydrated and desperate??
This part of the movie didn't make sense.

shareHe was drinking alcohol not urine. It looks to be whiskey to me but it differently wasn't urine. Believe me,if he was drinking his own urine that face after swallowing it would have been much different then the one he made.

I've been told that if you are going to drink urine, that you should drink it early on when you still have water. You dilute your urine with water and it makes your water go further. This can only be done when you are still reasonably hydrated and your urine is a light colour. Once you are dehydrated and your urine is dark, drinking it will not help you.
If I remember correctly, this was discussed by Bear Grylls on his programme with Barack Obama.
