He did not cross over

If he did die then he went into Limbo because he committed suicide

reply

I didn't get that whole end . Why the hell do you burn your life raft to flag down a ship that was probably 15 miles away ??
It seemed like the dumbest thing he could do. You can tell by the way he was waving his hands and that when the raft went on fire he panicked and fell into the water where then he knew he was dead.
I don't believe he tried to kill himself or he would have just jumped off or lit the raft on fire and jumped right in. Pretty stupid ending to what was a good film.

THERES NO ROOM IN MY CIRCUS TENT FOR YOU !!!!

Stop pretending like you would act rationally after 8 days of constant physical struggle, severe dehydration, head trauma, cracked and painful skin, emotional disappointment (2 ships passing him by), etc. He didn't burn his raft on purpose. He was delirious and desperate and the signal fire got out of hand before he could attend to it.

reply

That's the way I saw it. He was acting out of desperation and things got out of hand. He had been struggling, hungry, thirsty, hurt, and desperate so things happened differently than if he was contemplating 'what ifs' on land.

I saw the end as him crossing over. The light that came to get him when 'all was lost' and he was ready to let go.

This film is not philosophical or talk in imagery, so I take that what you see is what you get. As chance is that no one will be there to save him, the chance is that there will be. You can say it's no chance that would happen, right at when he had given up. But the fire would light up, and if there was a chance for anyone to see it, it would be then.

Wow. calm the *beep* down. i'm not even religious, you idiot.

Ok let me start over, because I acted irrationally.
Is suicide something that is personal to you? Were you close to someone that committed suicide?
