Salt Water

What was our man doing with that contraption he was getting water from. (I mean the one he rigged up himself.) Something to do with desalination & condensation?

reply

What about it?

reply

the evaporation separates the salt from the water, so he was catching the evaporated water with that plastic on top.

"the evaporation separates the salt from the water,"

No. The evaporator the man jury-rigged collects atmospheric moisture via condensation. Seawater has nothing to do with the rig.

reply

Well yes, water evaporates, and salt doesn't... so it's separated there, the vapor goes up, and condensates when it's caught by the film.

Edit: oh, I understand what you mean now, I didn't pay much attention.
If you say he didn't put seawater in that thing, I guess you're right.

Edit 2: But I was right... he uses seawater.
You'd have to be 2 years to get some water with your method of catching humidity in the air.

He did NOT collect atmospheric moisture. You clearly see him scoop sea water into the container before covering it with plastic. If he tried to capture water from the outside it would have been covered in salt from all the mist.
