I didn't care if he lived or died, not without a backstory.
For all we know he was a murdering rapist who stole the boat and buggered an entire family like that dude fron Cape Fear. I mean his boating skills were none existant so my theory makes sense.
I actually wanted a shark to eat him. The I wanted a shark to eat me I was so bored watching this gash movie.
