It's that damm music box recording with that little girl speaking random numbers over top. As soon as I hear it, pure dread starts creeping up my throat. I don't have proof of this (yet), but I'm pretty sure that's the sound track played in Hell.
I swear to God, if I happened to turn on my car radio and heard this "song", there'd be a SITUATION on the highway. Sitting in rush hour gridlock, just pointing at the radio screaming, "NO SATAN WAIT!!! WHAT DID I DO SATAN?!! DON WANNA GO TO HELL SATAN!!! NOOO!" While swatting at the air, just like the characters from Ghost, when those little black cartoon ghost demons dragged them off to hell.
It's a lot like the soundtrack from Sinister. With some kid randomly counting over low drums. Which made me want to drive from the theatre straight to the nearest church.
This soundtrack alone creates effective horror. It doesn't really matter what you put on the screen. Put it under reruns of The Golden Girls, and you'll have effective horror.
