The scene in which Papageorge visits his mother appears in colour, whereas the rest of the film is in B&W.

I think it has to do with Papageorge (and the other guy, whose name I can't remember atm) leaving the hotel and entering 'the real world' again, interacting with someone who he has a genuine emotional, human connection with (his mother). So he's no longer just a chess piece moving along the black and white board of his life.
