How in the world did this turd get made and distributed?

It had to be cheap, but some money was spent. DVDs were authored and packaging was created. It found it's way into my local library. How in the heck did this happen? Who had the clout and connections? Why isn't this just some amateur crap on YouTube?

reply

Because it's really good.

Inside Llewyn Davis is really good. 12 Years A Slave is really good. Stories We Tell is really good. Computer Chess is really good. Perhaps if you weren't so honed into contemporary big budget films you'd realize that.

You don't need a lot of money to make an exceptional work of art. All you need is creativity and originality.

Do you not understand the point of mumblecore or are you just trolling?

I have love to give, I just don't know where to put it.

reply

No, I'm not trolling. And, no, I don't understand the point of mumblecore. I didn't realize I needed to study up before viewing Computer Chess. I just watched it, took it at face value, and found it to be uninteresting. What's the secret TheUbrmensch? Was I supposed to send in 3 boxtops from Film School Toasties and get my free decoder ring? Crack the code for me buddy. Give me the key that will unlock the power and wonder of Computer Chess.

This post is so unintentionally in the spirit of this film, it's just golden. I for one am very happy you found this film unsatisfying.

I like Roger Ebert's summary. He is an avowed nerd & lover of scifi:

As an achievement, "Computer Chess" is laudable.
- As a film, it's missable.

I agree

It's not really good. It's not good at all. And I have yet to see anyone make a case for how and why it is "good."

I wondered the same why did a movie like this get onto netflix.
and made available Worldwide. I guess there is 1000 of movies that never reach that many viewers. Movies that could only dream of getting the same attention.

this film is amazing, lol at peasants who did not get it

What I wonder just about every time I read the comments on this board is, How did these intriguing, individualistic, challenging and off-the-beaten-path movies get into the hands of people who were never in their natural lives going to know what to do with them? In a way it's reassuring that viewers are willing to take chances, but why do so many feel the need to take it out on the films or filmmakers when they themselves fail to connect?

reply

You've hit the nail on its head. Wonderful film this, by the way.

reply

You're wondering how it got on Netflix? I'm wondering how it got on a frigging Masters of Cinema BluRay.

You borrow movies from the library???

lol

In cities without a decent video store (which is most cities nowadays), libraries are basically the only place to see good movies without buying or streaming/downloading them.

Where I live we pay extra on property taxes each year so the library system can exist, I get my monies worth and more every year, the library, as well as having books has thousands of DVD's and CD's, including a whole room of Jazz.
What's the problem with that?

Ephemeron.

Sorry that you don't understand it, it's okay. Just rewatch one of those other comedies that hollywood makes for you bud. :)
