It's returning

Spoiler alert for those who haven't seen the first half of S3.

I just saw on Twitter that the remainder of S3 (the aftermath of the bomb) will be shown in the UK from January/February. Looking forward to it!

In the UK? On what station? And how can we get it here? I'm assuming it will have English subtitles, right? I believe I may be able make arrangements with my cable channel to get an international station if I know which one. ¡Muchas gracias por la información!

reply

Hi,

Sky Arts, with english subtitles.

reply

¡Caramba! That's great that it's going to be on Sky Arts, but that's only available in the UK. I know. I tried. Even had an online chat with someone at Sky Arts to find out if we could watch it here. I guess we're just going to have to wait until Netflix finally gets the rest. Ack!

My wife is obsessed with this show, but she didn't want to see any spoilers and so sent me on here to find out if there were any episodes that aren't available on (American) Netflix. I couldn't seem to find any indication anywhere that there are, either here or on Wikipedia, but then I come across this thread and find that I might be wrong. There are, to the best of my knowledge, 42 episodes in existence and the same number on Netflix. But you guys are saying there are more. Can you set me straight so I can please the wife? Thanks in advance!

reply

Hi Jim! Yes, there are more episodes on YouTube, 22 more in the last season, but they don't have English subtitles, so I haven't watched them yet, but I know people who have—they're Spanish speakers. They're going to run the last season on Sky Arts in the UK starting at the end of this month. I'm not sure how often they're going to run the episodes. If they run them once a week, it'll take about five months to get through them all. We can't get that station in the US at all, not online and not on TV. I tried and even had a live chat with someone at that company in the UK about it. However, I'm hoping that once it's run on Sky Arts, Netflix will obtain the rest of the series. I know many of us have contacted Netflix to ask for it, and they always say they're working on it and it's a popular series. I'm as obsessed as your wife, btw, and have spent the last five or six months studying Spanish every day just so I might understand more of what's going on. I use the show to keep Spanish in my head, and I never seem to tire of it, even though I'm on my seventh go-round with those 42 Netflix episodes. Crazy, isn't it? 😁 But that last episode left us all in such a state—obviously the hotel will continue since there's another season, but what about Javier? ¡Caramba!

Wow, you really like the show! I knew I came to the right place 😄

Since you were so kind to help me out, I'll let you in on a little tip of my own: assuming Sky Arts will also be making the rest of the series publicly available to residents of the UK, you could invest in a VPN for a while (one of the most popular services is called, memorably enough, "HideMyAss!"). Basically, a VPN will make it appear as though you are using the internet from within a different country. In the case of Sky Arts, you'd want to make it appear as though you're coming from the UK, and that's super easy to do with HMA. I've done it many times, and last time I checked it's not illegal or anything. Of course, if Sky Arts requires some kind of proof of residence, then a VPN probably won't cut it. Still, it's worthwhile to know in case you ever find yourself addicted to (say) a BBC show!

reply

Hmmm, I have friends in the UK. Perhaps I could use their address! :) Sky Arts did require a postal code when I tried to sign up for it and it didn't like my zip code, naturally. I'm not sure what a VPN is or how I could get one, but I'll definitely look into this. I'm really dying to see how the whole thing ends. Glad I could offer what little knowledge I have of what's going on here, and thank you so much for yours!

reply

all you need, if Sky Arts stream on their website, is to instal a little app called Hola on your browser and that will allow you to connect to pretend you are connecting from the UK...

reply

Wow, I did that, so thank you, guer! Now, let's hope they show Grand Hotel at an hour I can watch it here in California. 😜

reply

If it's going to be on tv, someone is bound to make it available via youtube or some other site...

YouTube is okay for little short videos, but I really don't like to try to watch longer shows on it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my friends in the UK will share their account with me. I wrote them and we'll see what happens. Of course, they may not even have it, but perhaps they know someone who'll share with a desperate American. 😉 Sky's website said something about Grand Hotel being available on demand. Now that would be awesome! 😀

reply

I play youtube videos on my tv, so it's not much different from watching Netflix for me as long as the quality of the video itself is ok.

reply

And in this case, if you don't happen to need English subtitles. 😛 Only five days to go and I get to see the third season with subtitles. I can't wait! Although if they do what I think they might, run only one episode a week, it's going to be really tough and require mucho paciencia.

reply

No problem! I just tried to create an account myself, but it seems that whether or not you're in the UK, you have to be a paying customer of Sky in order to watch their programs online. If one of your British friends has an account (which is likely; when I lived in Ireland it seemed as if most people had Sky), and if they don't mind sharing their deets with you, then you should be good to go. And, depending on how Sky runs things, you might not even need a VPN as long as you've got your friend's info. But if you do end up needing one, well now you know what a VPN is and how to find it!

Now, I think I'll go contact a British friend of my own and see about getting some Sky access... 😎

reply

It worked! At least, I can watch trailers of movies on their site. Keeping my fingers crossed for the 29th that I can watch Grand Hotel on demand as it becomes available. We'll see. That's not too far off now! ¡Caramba!

I live in Dallas Texas. I love this series and another written by the same Directoer (Sedes) called Velvet. Many of the actors from the Gran are also in this series.

I'm not very tech savvy and don't have any friends in the UK that I can plug into for an address. I actually watched the entire Season 3 in Spanish (even though I didn't understand much of it, but I have learned an number of words and expressions.. : )

Will one of you fellow Gran Hotel addicts let me know if/how you gain access to Season 3 with English sub-titles? I would be eternally grateful!!!

I tried weeks ago to subscribe to Sky but they refused to let me have access.

Hi Patrice,

Thanks for posting this interesting and totally relatable post. I have just recently put Velvet into my to-watch list on Netflix, and I'm thrilled to hear many of the same actors are in that though I just looked at the beginning and didn't see any names I recognized. But that's great news! As for watching GH on SkyArts, I did get my friend to give me his info so I could watch it here and downloaded Hola, but just a couple of hours ago, I tried to watch one of the episodes from Season 2, and it wouldn't do it. I really don't know what to do now. i was so looking forward to watching Season 3 starting on Jan. 4. If anyone has a clue as to what I need to do to get the thing to work, please let me know. My friend's username and password work just fine to get me into the site but that doesn't do much if I can't watch anything. I was able to watch a trailer for some other movie, so I really don't get it.

I know how you feel about GH. I'm almost through it for the seventh time, using it to keep good Spanish in my head while I'm studying it using Duolingo.com. But there's no way I could possibly understand enough to watch it without subtitles yet, so I'm pretty stuck. When I finish this last time through in the next day or two, I'll watch Velvet. It does have English subtitles so I'm set. And it'll probably still help me with Spanish, which I'm determined to learn--it's just taking longer than I thought it would. Well, at my age, I guess that's understandable. 😣

Sunday!! Whoop and double whoop!!

It's back on Sky Arts 2, on Sunday at 8pm!!
Sky+ is all ready to record it....and the series link is set!!

reply

Yessssss! I'm just hoping I can get my iPad to play through the Apple TV using the Hola ap so I can watch it as it plays online. I can't figure out how to get Hola to work, so I've sent them an email. Hopefully, they'll help me. I've got my username and password all set up for Sky Arts. I've waited a long time for this. It'll be at 12:00 noon Sunday here. I will be watching for sure if I possibly can. I doubt I can record it, but perhaps I'll be able to play it on demand after the Sunday showing? We'll see. 😓

Well, that was a waste of effort. There was no way to make it so I could watch this show, I just got error messages. I have no idea why they want to make it so difficult. Nothing worked, I couldn't get Hola to work either. So I guess I just wait until it shows up on Netflix, and we all know how fickle they are. ::sigh::

I thoroughly enjoyed this show, it felt like a great book one just can't put down!
I did a marathon viewing, so glad to hear it will continue!
Awaiting in California, please post when available on Netflix!

I know how you feel. And let me now recommend a couple of things. First, contact and chat with someone on Netflix's website and let them know you want, no need, the third season. Don't let them give you some BS about how the second and third season were combined. That may be true, but there are 22 more episodes they don't have yet, and they left us with a huge cliffhanger. Second, watch Velvet (it also has another season they don't have yet that I just found out about, but it's still worth it). It was created by the same guy who did Gran Hotel, and it has five or six of the actors who were in Gran Hotel. Not Yon González though. Too bad. 😜The same composer wrote the music for it, too. It takes place in 1952, and the cars and the clothes are just amazing. They've written a bunch of 50s-style rock-n-roll songs that sound completely authentic and yet I've never heard them before, and most of them are in English. It also has a romance between two people of different classes with impossible obstacles to overcome and a bunch of interesting characters. The Spanish is a tad slower most of the time, so if you're trying to pay attention to that, it's a little easier. Enjoy!

Yon Gonzalez is in a new series called Bajo Suspecha that I'm dying to watch! http://www.antena3.com/series/bajo-sospecha/

reply

here's a longer trailer: http://youtu.be/O3OQUHfMbj0

reply

Cool. Does he wear a tux in it all the time? ::sigh:: There's a movie on Netflix he's in, too, but I wouldn't recommend it. It's really filthy. LOL

reply

The actor who plays Diego is also in it! And it's about the disappearance of a girl named Alicia haha

reply

Yes! I watched the first episode last week and it was good. Yon Gonzalez plays an undercover cop and I couldn't help chuckling when he gets a job as a waiter (the family he is investigating owns a restaurant). So once again, he is pretending to be a waiter to investigate someone's disappearance.

reply

Hmmm, Under Suspicion, eh? Well, I went to that website, and it's all in Spanish, and mine is not nearly good enough to watch this without subtitles. Let's hope either my Spanish improves or Netflix gets this series eventually. If only they didn't speak so fast, I might have a chance. Oh well...
