Hey guys, I'm watching season 3 without subtitles. My Spanish is pretty good but not perfect so sometimes I miss things. Spoiler alert obviously - when Ayala makes Julio get off the train, what exactly happened there? What was his reasoning? Julio and Alicia were leaving by their own free will. And then they apparently got off the train separately. If anyone can clear up this scene for me I'd appreciate it!
shareYou have to remember this was back in the early 1900s. Ayala would have tried to bring back Alicia for desertion. Divorce back then was much more frowned upon than it is today, and a divorce was a much easier thing to do for a male than a woman which is why Alicia couldn't just get a divorce.
Ayala let Julio go without any trouble because it was Alicia he needed, but it was also a sort of gesture on his part. Julio attacks Hernando and wants Alicia to runaway with him still. However, getting "caught" made Alicia realize that they would never truly be free this way so she went back.

shareAlso, Ayala knew if he arrested Julio, Diego would find out who is Alicia's lover and might confront him and either one might end up dead. As he says to Alicia, he (Ayala) is in the business of preventing crime not causing it.
