It is pretty hilarious when you think how there's really not one character who doesn't have some dark past shame or who isn't doing something nefarious now, though of course there are degrees of wrongdoing. Having just watched the most recent two episodes of Downton Abbey, I have to say, Gran Hotel beats it all to hell for excitement and great plot twists. 😝

share::snicker:: Yeah. And I still need subtitles with Downton Abbey since people below stairs speak a kind of English I have a hard time understanding. BTW, I just finished the first season of Velvet, which I thought was almost as good as Gran Hotel. Very clever, these Spaniards!

While I wait, I started watching Bajo Sospecha, a new Spanish police show that has Yon Gonzalez as one of the main characters. It's very good! Pedro Alonso is also in it and has a daughter named Alicia who is kidnapped.
Aw shucks, I guess neither of these have English subtitles, do they? Well, we can only hope someday. I can do without Pedro Alonzo—I think Diego soured me on him for good. How ironic he has a daughter named Alicia who's kidnapped. Serves him right! LOL But I'd love to see Yon Gonzalez in something else. I did see him in a movie, but it was so filthy I couldn't watch it. I just skipped to the parts he was in, which weren't so bad, thank goodness. Ever since I started studying Spanish (again), I've found some great Latino actors to admire, like Yon, but also Gael Garcia Bernal. He's terrific! And he speaks English so sometimes we even get to see him do that. I'm not sure watching movies and TV shows in Spanish actually helps me learn it any better than just studying it, but it does make for a lot of fun.
My friend is coming over Wednesday to watch the first episode of Season Three of Grand Hotel. She had found it independently of me, and we were both so surprised that we had discovered it at the same time. She speaks some Spanish but not well enough to follow the show very well without subtitles. Season Three certainly has its share of cliffhangers, doesn't it? That tenth episode was a killer, and I'm still waiting for the eleventh to show up and relieve that pins and needles feeling.
Yon is in a recent comedy called perdiendo el norte (http://perdiendoelnorte.es/). It's about two young spaniards who move to germany to look for a job because of the current economic crisis in Spain. I'm dying to watch it!
shareSo am I!!! It looks like the uncle from Velvet is in this, too. It still tickles me that I'm starting to recognize so many Spanish actors. 😊 BTW, how do you translate Perdiendo el norte? Losing the north? That doesn't make much sense.
shareIt's an expression meaning losing direction/losing one's way... It's a compass metaphor. But in the case of the movie it is also a play of words with the fact that the story deals with these two spaniards immigrating to Germany (which is north) and losing their identity/themselves along the way
