Are there really families who are constantly scheming, twisting, backstabbing and lying? Unbelievable. I wouldn't have time for anything else just keeping all the lies straight. And, how quickly they come up with the lies and schemes...I'd be left in the dust in that family.

Pretty unbelievable, but ok, it's a tv series, am on episode 33 and pretty addicted. Love the setting and the costuming seems impeccable and so true to the period.

However:

-I wish Diego's recovery had been more true to life. No one with that severe of an injury is going to be up going for walks the next day.

-When Alicia was being followed by the gold-knife killer at night in the hallway and she ran and locked herself in her room...wouldn't it have made sense to scream? Is her devotion to the hotel image so great that she'd die for it?

-When the gold-knife killer has Alicia alone in the kitchen and before he has her in hand, she just slowly backs away. I'd be running wherever there was to run and screaming my head off.

Yeah, I noticed all these things and have to agree with your assessment, but nothing's perfect. As far as I'm concerned, even with its flaws, and there really are only a few of them, it's as you say, addicting and terrific.

If you're watching on Netflix, please let them know when you're finished that you want the next season. The more the merrier. And in fact, I won't have to remind you. You'll be screaming at them to get it, well IMing loudly anyway, because you're going to be dying to know what happens next! 😁

All I can say without spoiling the third season, is that Diego is not the only one who will go through surgery for a serious injury amd be out and about the next day.

reply

Oh that Julio, he's just really incredible, isn't he? LOL

reply

Clearly, you've missed out on the Borgias. And every other royal family in history. Oh the scandal!

reply

I think with this show you have to suspend disbelief and time progression. But who cares! I love my Julio.. I will watch him even if I have to move into the realm of idiocy.

Yon is also in another Spanish mystery show on Netflix called El internado (The Boarding School). However, he looks to be only about 16, and he's kind of a brat, at least so far. I only watched the first episode. But it goes on forever so perhaps he grows some by the end. 😜

reply

Oh my god, he does grow up by the end.. he did the show between the ages of 21 and 25.. the first season he is not a very likable character, but he does it so well, and his back story and the relationship between his character and the maid in the boarding school is one of the best ever.. You really should watch it.. you will like it.. And Yon's role becomes more prevalent as the episodes progress.. his character, Ivan, is one of my favorite characters of all time. He breaks your heart and his story is beautiful.

reply

Thanks for these details. I will definitely watch. :) He was 21? He seems a lot younger but perhaps they just made him up to look that young.

reply

Yes, he was 21 when it started. He was born in 1986 and the series began in 2007 and ran through 2010. :-) And please let me know what you think of the series when you do watch it. I am very curious.

reply

I agree!! I'm on season 5 and his character in this show is really deep and he does a terrific job playing him. I'm in love with this series!

reply

You are so lucky to be watching it for the first time.. I have seen it so many times that I forget what it must be like for a person to first discover Ivan.. :-)

reply

Well, I can't say I like it as much as I liked Grand Hotel, which is still my all-time favorite Spanish-language show, but it is very good, and it's fun seeing Yon González, who really is a very good actor. I was watching an interview he did years ago while he was making Grand Hotel, and he said every time he gets chosen for a new part, he cries. There's something very touching about that. But perhaps he knows that for someone to make it in show biz is always a big gamble, and he's been very lucky. And so are we that his talent gets to be shared with the world.

reply

like I said in my previous post on another thread, just keep watching.. Ivan will win your heart, and he will break it too..
