Mexican adaptation - El Hotel de los Secretos?

Has anyone heard of this "El Hotel de los Secretos" series that is premiering on January 25th on Univision? It's a Mexican adaptation of "Gran Hotel." I was just searching Hulu for some new dramas and I happened to come across a 20-minute sneak peek of it.

I'm not too sure how I feel about this. I know they are doing an English adaptation that is supposed to be set in 50's Havana, which I've warmed up to. I think it would be interesting to see an English adaptation set in a new location. Would certainly never touch the original in quality, but I'm surprisingly looking forward to checking it out whenever it happens to be released. However, apart of me isn't too thrilled about this Mexican adaptation. I can't put my finger on why I'm not all that happy about it.

Has anyone heard of it? If so, are you going to check it out? I *might* check it out simply because I'm curious. Although, I'd have to find a place that offers English subtitles because unfortunately Hulu does not.

Hulu had English subtitles for Gran Hotel but not Spanish subtitles. Netflix has both, which is very handy if you're trying to learn Spanish. Of course, Hulu only has the first season of Gran Hotel, unfortunately. They don't take cuts, however, so there were scenes in the Hulu version I hadn't seen in the Netflix version, some of them answering questions I had.

Not sure how I feel about this Mexican version either. But I certainly could DVR it and see if it's worth watching. But without English subtitles, I'm pretty sure I'd be unable to follow it. My Spanish just isn't there yet. It's on five nights a week!

I was looking for updates about the English language adaptation a couple of days ago and came across this version. I will probably dvr a couple of episodes out of curiosity. Hopefully there will be English subtitles otherwise I will be completely lost.

I ran into a Spanish-speaking acquaintance of mine tonight and found out she's a great Gran Hotel fan, as well as Velvet. She also tried this new version from Mexico, as I did, and we both agreed totalmente that it was nada compared to the original. I stopped watching, both because there were no English subtitles and from the Spanish I could understand, it wasn't much like the original, and as my friend said, the characters weren't even as good looking. LOL We both gave it up.

I now have a machine that plays DVDs from all over the world, and it's a real temptation to get the GH set from Spain without the subtitles. I'm just not sure how long it'll be before I can really understand all the words. It would be great to get the entire series though if only to see the missing scenes Netflix has removed. Still considering it. Si alguien tiene algún consejo sobre la materia, estaría interesado.
