Grand Hotel on Netflix

Where did it go? Been watching for many weeks, enjoying the story. Then on November 15 I turn on to watch, and no program. What happened? Is there any place to get it?

Amazingly, the Only place I can get any info is here on iMdb.

I dunno. I had already seen it so many times I hadn't watched it in a few months. I just checked yesterday and it was gone. They've done this before. Just taken a series off. I was watching another from Canada called Little Men and was halfway through when it disappeared, too. You could write to Netflix, or chat with someone through the website and express your displeasure. I'm kind of disappointed myself. I actually bought the whole DVD set from Spain, but it only has subtitles in Spanish, and my Spanish isn't that great, so it would have been nice to be able to go back to Netflix when I got tired of trying to figure it out. This is a bummer, because I've recommended it to so many people, and they all loved it.

Thanks for the info. I'll try the Email route.

Thank you posting this question, as I too was baffled... and disappointed with Netflix

reply

It's especially disappointing when it's a show like this that probably can't be found anywhere else. And I'm sure a lot of people were in the middle of it and won't be able to find out what happens.

Try wlext.net..they have all the seasons with the subtitles in english and it's actually shown how it was shown on tv in Spain not cut up like Netflix

reply

Thanks, it seems to be working fine.

reply

It's gone from Netflix but Hulu has it.

reply

Does it have the whole thing? They used to only have the first season.

Grrrrr. They only have the first season! Why do these streaming services do that? Who wants to watch one season of a series with multiple seasons? I get why Amazon does it so they can charge to watch additional seasons but Hulu doesn't charge for extras. They just don't offer them.

reply

Have you contacted Netflix about this? You can IM them and talk to someone and tell how unhappy you are about their taking it off. They did the same with another series I was watching, very aggravating. It's one thing to take a movie off the lineup, but a series? Someone out there is going to be in the middle of it! And they had just the first two seasons of Gran Hotel up for months before we ever got the third season. But we griped to them, lots of people did, and finally they got it. So it can work. I may get in touch, too, although I have the DVD of the whole thing, but sometimes it's nice to watch with English subtitles with my Spanish so deficient.

Hulu has it - but they've replaced the subtitles. The new ones are big yellow letters on a black bar that can cover much of the bottom third of the screen. It's awful.

reply

Thank you. Do you know if Hulu added all the seasons? I can check but not at the moment or even next few days.

reply

If you have an Apple TV, you can watch Hulu on that, and it's possible the subtitles will be smaller.

On a whim, I bought the entire DVD set of Gran Hotel, but I don't understand enough Spanish to really know what's going on. I am planning on going through it all again with the Spanish subtitles for immersion.

In The Netherlands Gran Hotel is still available on Netflix. A friend of mine recommended it and i just started series 3. I love it and am totally hooked. I definitely want to watch it a second time so I checked if it is also available on DVD and the entire series can be ordered here, with subtitles. So if Netflix removes it here I am safe. :-)

reply

That's great! I bought the entire DVD set from Spain, but it only has Spanish subtitles. My Spanish is just not good enough to follow it although I have seen it so many times with English subtitles I usually know what's going on, just not every word of the dialogue. What language is your subtitles in?

reply

It has Dutch subtitles I assume. I did not order it yet since here it is still available on Netflix, but if it is removed I will order the entire series on DVD. Sometimes a dvd has more languages for subtitles and you can chose which one you want to see, but I have no idea if it is the case for this dvd. I am glad we never dub foreign movies or series but aleays use subtitles. In Germany and France they always dub, but the words don't go with the lips and I don't like it when I don't hear the actual voices of the actors.

reply

I did order the entire series on dvd after all. Here it is still available on netflix but since it is removed in other countries it will be a matter of time before it is removed here as well. And now I am sure that I can watch it as many times as I want to. I am a person that watches movies and series lots of times if I like it enough, and Gran hotel is definitely worth watching again a couple of times.

I checked the subtitles and it is only in Dutch.

reply

Have you found Poldark? It's a wonderful series, too! And Aidan Turner is incredible!

It is not on netflix, but indeed Poldark can also be purchased here. It sounds like something I would like so I keep it in mind. I hope it will appear on netflix some day, that would be cheaper than buying the dvd's.

I just started watching Velvet, saw the first episode. On netflix seasons 1 and 2 are available. I think I will like the story but I doubt if I will like the main characters as much as Julio and Alicia. Those two are hard to beat.

reply

I thought Velvet would be good, too, and the first two seasons were sort of interesting to me, but I lost interest in the third season. I may start watching it again for the Spanish, but they speak even faster than they did in Gran Hotel, and it's hard to follow for someone like me even with subtitles. And you're right about the main characters. Neither one of them is as interesting as Julio and Alicia. In fact, a lot of times they irritated me. LOL

Netflix in the US has Poldark season one on DVDs you can order but not for download yet. But each season is only the price of a dinner out, so it's not like it'll break you. I've watched mine many times, so it was completely worth it, and I will watch them again many times, it's so gorgeous with beautiful music and a very dramatic and interesting story. Poldark's main characters, Ross Poldark and Demelza, are similar to Gran Hotel in that he is the gentleman and she is a poor miner's daughter and he struggles to support them, so you have that class thing going that's so compelling, and the chemistry between the two of them is amazing.

Hmmm, sounds good. I checked and season 1 is available on dvd for a good price, while seasons 1 and 2 are available on blu ray for 90€. These have no subtitles but my English is good enough to watch without them. I celebrate my birthday in 2 months, might be a nice present. :-)

Seems like Poldark also has a movie and/or an older version, or are these completely different stories?

reply

No, they're all based on the same books by Winston Graham. He wrote 12 books in the series, and so far, I think only the first 5 have been adapted to the screen. I was a fan of the 70s series, too, but I'm really obsessed with the new one, mainly because Aidan Turner is so incredible. And btw, he looks even better in Blu-ray than he does on DVD. LOL And actually, they have some other eye candy that makes it pretty darned delightful. 😊 The disks have English subtitles, and even I have to rely on them sometimes when that Cornish accent gets out of hand. 😉 There are also some very interesting extra features.

I suppose these boards will be shut down before you get back to me about Poldark. ::sigh:: Oh well, enjoy! Maybe we'll manage to save these message boards, but somehow I doubt it.

I also doubt if these message boards will be saved but you never know. English subtitles will help with funny accents.

Yesterday I started watching Gran hotel for the second time. Just 1 episode a day and meanwhile I continue watching Velvet. My holiday is almost over and monday I start working again so no more time for binge watching.

reply

I'm watching one episode a day of Gran Hotel, too. But all this talk about Poldark induced me to watch the first episode of that again tonight. They're both just great series.

¡Disfrute del resto de sus vacaciones y buena suerte!
