Robert Hansen February 15, 1939 – August 21, 2014

I see that Robert Hansen died in prison at the age of 75. Too bad he didn't live to be at least 100. Convicted in 1983, so he served about 31 years. Not enough for what he did in a cold-blooded calculating way.

To steal and modify a quote from Bette Davis: You should never say bad things about the dead, you should only say good ... Robert Hansen is dead. Good.

As for how much time he served, if we think in terms of whether he was punished enough for his hideous crimes, it might well seem like he was not. Our Constitution forbids doing to him or other such monsters what they did to their victims, so no legal punishment could match his crimes. I think it might be healthier for us to think in terms of whether the state was able to keep him from hurting more people, and from that angle, the state was 100% successful.

As for his remains, if he had no infectious diseases, I'd have voted for tossing him from a plane over some forest and give Alaska's wildlife the pleasure of recycling him.

Epic quote.

I trust you understand that Ms Davis made her comment not about Hansen but about her dear friend Joan Crawford. ("Dear friend" in this instance being used somewhat loosely.)
