Why was he charged for only 4 murders?

"Of these 17 women, Hansen was only formally charged with the murder of four: Sherry Morrow, Joanna Messina, Eklutna Annie and Andrea Altiery. He was also charged with the kidnapping and rape of Cindy Paulson."

He admitted that he also killed all the others! He took the police to the places that he buried them!

I think it was a plea deal. Even if he confessed to all the other murders, many of the bodies were never recovered, so the lack of hard evidence would make it difficult to prosecute those cases. Also, murder trials take a huge toll on victims families, as well as being extremely costly to taxpayers. Hansen agreed to lead the cops to the grave sites marked on his map in exchange for serving time in federal prison and only being charged with the four murders. He received LWOP + 461 years, so it really wasn't necessary to convict him for the others.

Yeah, but isn't it unfair for the other victims that were found and identified, that they were killed by...no one, "in the books"? So if someone puts a bomb and kills 100 people, they're gonna charge him just for the 5 of them? So the rest 95 died by accident? It's just not fair.

What's "LWOP"? I googled it, and it says "Leave Without Pay", and the explanations were irrelevant with penalties for murders or whatever.

LWOP is life without parole.

Would it be less fair that he doesn't make a plea deal and they are not able to convict him and he goes on to kill more women?? He didn't die until 2014, so how many more women would he have killed before they caught him??
