CGI ruined this

"Grindhouse" had minimal CGI, but for whatever reason—likely budget—everything, even gunshot wounds, were animated in this. I am so disappointed I don't even know where to start. I feel cheated. I don't see movies to see CGI like this. Are traditional effects really that much more expensive?

A lot of what happens in this movie would be impossible and/or ridiculously expensive without CGI.

The only thing that bothered me was the CGI blood/wounds. Its unnecessary and looks like crap. Whatever happened to good, old-fashioned squibs?

That's what I'm saying.

Why even make a movie if it's just gonna be crap CGI? It's like the chance of low budget movies to become cult for their creative effects (think 80's stuff) has gone to nothing.

I'm surprised Rodriguez put his name on this.

I agree, but Rodriguez always had CGI blood. I don't remember him using practical blood in any of his movies (not sure about El Mariachi tho, it's been ages since I've seen that one). Same for gunfire, he always does CGI gunfire.

I think Danny Trejo should have at least done that scene where he spins around the helicopter, blowing the bad guys away, for real.

He's pretty fit for an old guy, I'm sure he could have pulled it off.
