I don't mean any spoilers but that part's in the trailer so I figured I could ask directly. When the characters stumble on a child with her back to them, we never go back to that. What's that all about?

That was not a little girl. It was a mannequin dressed in a little girl's clothes. The mutants put it there to temporarily distract the group, so they could grab the blond girl.
Notice that immediately afterwards it was gone?

Wow, those are some talented mutants. Do you reckon they hand stitched each piece of clothing too? Personally if I was flesh-eating monster with the IQ of a barnacle I'd probably just skip all the complexities of dressing a mannequin and just send one of the child mutants to distract the walking food so we could kidnap the sitting food.

It did look like a large size doll as a kid cant stand that still. Nut then it did appear behind them ware thy had just walked and when their girl Nat was snatched and she screamed they ran back to Nat's direction and the camera swung to show the child sized form was gone
