the aussie guy made some good decisions

People moan about horror movie characters but he seemed pretty clued up e.g finding a map, making decisions regarding fixing the van, taking the gun from paul when paul was obviously losing it, picking up a tyre iron for protection at the start, keeping on at paul to try the radio etc

Just thought it was worth a mention in a genre filled with characters making stupid decisions, often for plot convenience.

Decent film btw, I liked how they were pushed towards the reactor at the end...also how the mutants werent technically the villains. Tense rather than scary and uri was very good on screen as well. The setting was the star obviously but then I was always going to at least enjoy that.

I totally agree with you, octo.

I found myself telling my husband, "Oh, I hope the Australain makes it. He seems to be the only one with a brain in his head."

reply

Yeah I was hoping he would make it too, it was quite strange to see someone repeatedly use common sense in a horror movie..especially with most people around him just losing it.

Its the same actor from 'wolf creek' which is decent as well if youi haven't seen it. Only mention it as I only recently realised.

I was about to say octo_gone, he'd already survived Wolf Creek so he had some experience

That said he pretty much missed all the crazy sh#t and just walked out of there.

Haha yeah man I think he must have walked out of wolf creek and decided to take an excursion to take his mind off it, straight into a fkin reactor

would be great to see that kind of concept used sometime

Good one.

Yeah absolutely, more crossover horror characters would be great. The one that springs to mind (albeit a very brief cameo in both) is "Grim" (Eli Roth) and his dog Mr Mambo who appear in both Cabin Fever and 2001 Maniacs. Cool touch.

I thought I remembered something similar being mentioned on the horror board at some point but I've never seen either of those films (which one should I watch first?)

But yeah it would be something great to utilise especially for those of us who stay in the genre. I had this idea for a thread one time about films not in the same series where one could potentially end before being followed by another. I couldn't think of any actual examples though, and tbh I struggled to explain it just now when I wrote it lol

Yeah. I found most of the characters remarkably less stupid than the average horror guy/girl.

🐺 Boycott movies that involve real animal violence (& their directors) 🐾
