Likeable characters who made reasonable decisions given their circumstances instead of foolish ones to drive the story. Good suspense, good scares, and realistic dialogue. I especially enjoyed that the characters took the time to care about each other, they grieved each loss instead of just moving on for survival. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I've seen The Hills Have Eyes (2006) as well as the original 1977 film. Both are great movies. But that doesn't take anything away from my enjoyment of The Chernobyl Diaries or make me feel that it doesn't "measure up."
shareAgreed. The movie did have some weak points, but most movies do. Otherwise it was a pretty good horror movie with enough suspense and gore. I don't understand why it is so poorly rated.
shareI definitely agree with you. This movie didn't really have any bad points, so unless you watched it with ridiculously high expectations I don't see why anyone wouldn't enjoy it.
It deserves higher than 5.0, but it only takes one person to come out with the usual "worst movie ever" hyperbole and everyone jumps on the bandwagon . Thank god I didn't listen to those morons or I would have missed out on this little gem.
My thoughts exactly. Compared to the modern horror films we see in this age of crappiness, this was above average on pretty much all counts - thrills, pacing, mood, effects, characters, and best of all, no shaky cam!
