I'm not a big 'horror' guy

but I'm trying to be. I see the merits of the genre and am starting to appreciate it more and more. "American Horror Story" has helped.

But this film was a painful viewing experience. I think it did a good job getting at what it was going for. But when you're a parent, it's hard to look at things like this (or anything, for that matter) through a lens that filters out the parental heart. And from a parental perspective, this film is about as terrifying as it gets. I often gauge a movie's value in its rewatchability, which is something that has always plagued the genre for me. If it's possible for a film to have a *negative* "re-watchability score", this one has it. That's not to say I think the movie has zero merit and it was a total waste of time. Definitely not. For only getting a 6.1 here, I thought it was quite good. But once is enough. For me, anyway.
