I didn't watch the whole film, my other half wasn't enjoyin the gruesomeness of it etc so after about 45 mins we just forwarded it through to get the jist of the story.

What I failed to understand was why did his dad want the mother dead, are we told what she did that was so bad?

Also, why didn't the mom know the dad had a brother?

And what was with the mother rape scene?

Sorry its unlike me to ask such silly questions here...but tbh I wasnt really enjoying the film either, I found it to be a bit sick for the sake of being sick...

We're never really told WHY he wanted her dead...but since he remarried so soon and apparently became fairly wealthy, I would assume he just wanted her out of the way. They never say why or even if she didn't know. The dad's new wife certainly didn't think he had a brother. I think the rape scene with the mother was to show what Bob himself had experienced...he'd been forced to have sex with his own mother, then she rejected him in favor of his abuser.

I inferred from the dramatic improvement in Brad's economic circumstances from the beginning to the end of the film that he had a substantial life insurance policy on Sarah, and maybe on Tim as well. It might have taken a few months to get them declared legally dead, but it would happen eventually.
