It's extra footage from Mary's murder. Apparently the original was much more graphic and bloody.

I just got the blu-ray, and that scene may be on there since it says something like Mary's Murder extended or alternate.
shareI would have thought if anything was NC17 it would have been the incest scene. So your telling me a murder scene is worse than that? Wow the MPAA is messed up.

I couldn't agree more.
The MPAA should be disbanded because their system of rating leaves a lot to be desired. I've seen some pretty violent acts in supposedly PG-13 movies. One example is in Snow White and the Huntsman. You clearly see the Queen plunge a dagger into the chest of her husband. That was a pretty shocking and violent scene and yet they let it slide.
I have noticed, over the years, the scenes they make a fuss about concerns violence towards women. So violence towards men is OK? Talk about a double standard.
both scenes should not be cut in any way.

You can see the alternate version of Mary's death in the extras on the disc. The main difference is you really see the blood gushing out of her neck when she's shown from the front, whereas in the film it's just a red line until she falls. It seems an arbitrary cut to make, given everything else that happens in the film (and in both versions she's shown on the ground spurting blood.)
