far to many plot holes and unanswered questions *spoiler*

and I take it the boys were forced to sleep with their mum??

reply

Yea, they showed us that in the film in Bob's flashbacks & dreams. There is only one hole, what had happened to Angie. What other holes??

It's not a hole, Angie is dead, there were two graves dug and he cut out the newspaper article of her missing.

I must have totally missed that scene of the 2 graves dug, but I do recall him cutting the article.
So do you think the boy killed her or she bled out & died from her previous injuries. I found the ending to be strange with him returning home as if he has come back to continue the killing because he was depicted as someone with a good deal of empathy considering the lengths he went to prior to protect Angie. I think, though I'm sure some doctors would disagree, that the extreme urge that drove Bob to his behaviour & actions cannot be just instantly imprinted upon the boy, if after all of the bloody, vicious & hyper violent, murderous actions that he was exposed to in his life hadn't made him a killer(initial Angie incident) that the odds are a million to one that he will not continue Bob's work. He just wouldn't have the drive, but I guess it's possible the final confrontation with his father had made him finally "snap".

No she died because of her injuries.

What makes you think Angie died? The last scene they showed of her, she was cleaned up and taking a nap on Rabbit's cot...and she moved. The next scene showed him digging Bob's grave.

There was no evidence whatsoever that Angie died.

reply

Yeah I don't think she died either. She looked cleaned up and like she had a good night sleep. If Rabbit could get himself to the city I don't see why he wouldn't be able to get her back in the city as well with him.

reply

You're way off. There wasn't two new graves. There were 3 mounds at the end with the scrapbook on one. The other graves could be from any of the victims.

And there was no newspaper clipping of Angie.

reply

What seems just so completely stupid on the other hand, is the fact that out of so many missing people in that city, the detectives couldn't figure out the cab connection. It's just not possible to keep the MO up like that. How many people went missing? 30, 50? Would've been at least a dozen of them with notes to the fact that they were last seen or heard of taking a taxi, or some sort of public transportation.
Other than that, movie was chillingly well done, and we know very well that demented people like that cab driver really do exist.

I also had to wonder how 10+ years worth of bodies fit in the crawlspace under the house!

reply

If I am not mistaken, they built an extension on the house to provide more crawl space.

reply

Yes, extensions were built to create more crawlspace and D'Onofrio's character also covered the bodies with quicklime.

reply

why use the crawlspace at all. he had acres of land around him with no neighbors.

reply

I did see lots of cars driving by....and no trees/cover. Where do you buy lime? I wonder if that's as suspicious as buying a ton of fertilizer?

reply

I didn't see any major plot holes. Boring? Perhaps, as it was mostly a silly exercise in torture porn. I wanted to check it out because I consider D'Onofrio the best actor on TV, but he didn't show me much here. A disappointment indeed. Detective Goran is clearly his magnum opus.

reply

You must not be aware of Full Metal Jacket. D'Onofrio is fantastic in it. Anyway, I agree with you. This is not a good movie. I wouldn't say it was boring, but it was very tedious. The idea ran its course after about half an hour. I can't believe the amount of praise I've seen for this movie. It is a mediocre & self indulgent attempt to try to be "deep" but fails. I honestly do not think Jennifer Lynch is a very good filmmaker at all.

He was definitely solid in FMJ. Thought he did a lot of good things, but at the same time I couldn't help but feel like he was a bit miscast.
