Dot pointing the gun at her beau, the whole household being drugged, the guy wanting to grab Miss Fisher for his trip to the Egyptian afterlife ... it just seems a little hokey.

Yes, no more evil nemesis nonsense. I always thought the game-playing psychopath was the cop/detective show equivalent of jumping the shark. It does appear to be over and done with now. Looking forward to more stories that are very much of the time/place the show is set :)
I'm very impressed by the attention to detail in terms of costumes, decor, furnishings etc. It looks so good, and so authentic.
