Tut Tut not in keeping with character episode 8

Enjoyable period sleuthing with a well formed leading lady who really looks the part most times. The parade of Mis fishers clothing must be visual feast for those who who really are in tune with this period.

Her method of birth control should be made available for the careless youth in some lands.

Miss Fisher had an assignation with our handsome Chinese import/export friend with benefits. She had been wearing her white trouser suit and was in a state of nearly undress when she dismissed him only to be seen in the next scenes having redressed again in her white suit. Her attitude to clothing is such that I do not see her wearing the same costume unless she has stayed overnight in some place impulsively.

She does look great though.

I also can understand how US persons have a problem with Australian accents sounding British. Essies pronunciation is mostly of an English sound while around her the accents are more in keeping with my impression of Australian. All Londoners do not sound like the stereotype cockney or Mick Jagger.

I think you'll find that she was wearing a glamorous silver/white silk robe around the house, rather that getting dressed in the same clothing a second time... Considering what a glamour-puss Miss Fisher is, it's not at all surprising to see her luxuriating the morning away in such a lovely robe.

It is totally in character for Phryne to stay someplace overnight, impulsively or not. In one of the books it's mentioned that she keeps a little overnight bag in her car, because such occasions are frequent enough for her.

There are so many lovely men in Melboure, after all.

Ha, yes, I noticed that too and thought "Hang on... that's not like her to wear the same ensemble two days in a row". But very considerate of her, though. It either means saving a bit on the laundry bill, or giving Dot or Mr. Butler less dirty clothes to wash and iron.

I say she is a cracker isn't she!

She does seem to have an appetite for the opposite sex, and that female doctor pal ...there seems to be something going on there. There would actually be a bit more sexual chemistry between Phrynee and Jack if she weren't so compulsive elsewhere.

Re The Accent. I was brought up in Wales and a friend of my dad was from Potters Bar ( North London) I thought from his accent that he was from Australia untill I got up the courage to ask him whereabouts in Australia he came from.. Hoots of derision followed me down..

P.S the business with the trumpet horn and the fatal dart...L.O.L

Miss Fisher uses a diaphragm. There is a scene in Season 1 where Dot picks up the case and then puts it back down smartly when she is told what it contains.

reply

The diaphragm was the choice until the Pill was invented in the 60s

reply

It was still in use in the 1980s, as well.
