This is driving me crazy. Did I miss something or did they deliberately write Jane (Phryne's adopted daughter) out of the show in series 2? She was briefly in episode 3 of series 2 (when the ladies visit the seaside town of Queenscliff) but that was the last time we really see or even hear about her. Where has she gone? Did Phryne send her away to private school or something?

shareI don't remember this correctly, but it seems Jane was very eager to go to boarding school in France (?). Miss Fisher is more than capable of obliging Jane's desire to explore the world, much like her adoptive mother. Anyway... kids are hard to cast for the long-term, because they have school, parents, puberty, and other opportunities to explore.

I'm still on season 1 and I was asking myself the same thing! She adopts her in one episode, and the next she's nowhere to be seen. Even the taxi drivers who have no actual good reason to be at Miss Fisher's house are always there, but Jane who supposedly lives there is never around! And Miss Fisher definitely doesn't behave like someone who's raising a child by herself. There's no nanny, she doesn't interact with her, she's always out clubbing and disappears for days on end without warning.
What's the point of having her adopt the child if she's not going to be part of the household and the show, I'd like to ask the writers.
But Jane was very important in season 1.
In season 2, the one I am watching now, they said she is going to the continent as an enriching experience for her.
Yeah, she's more present in the later part of the season which I've just finished watching. But for the first couple of episodes after her moving in she's hardly ever there. And she still disappears for entire episodes for no good reasons.

The man was in jail for kidnapping a girl than was rescued alive. As it was the same m.o. than with Jane's disappearance, they believe he kidnapped and murdered Jane, but have not proof.
