Murdoch Foyle?

I don't know if this ahs been asked or otherwise covered...

but seeing as there is "Murdoch Mysteries" in Canada and 'Foyle's War" out of the UK... both of which arguably fall into the same genre

was the Choice to name Phryne's Nemesis "Murdoch Foyle" a conscious invocation of these shows, either as 'Shout out' or 'Take that'...

or is it a coincidence, and I'm reading too much into it, because I'm aware of their existence.?

reply

Murdoch mysteries post date the publishing of the first Phryne Fisher novel, so i think you're reading far too much into this.

reply

perhaps... which I cited as an option...

But then my question moves to, was Murdoch Foyle a character/Name used in the Early books... unless I missed something, the Series only added mention of him and his status as 'series Villain' several episodes in... and based on later Novels...

we all know how 'adaptations' result in changes, additions, composites and such...

reply

Murdoch Foyle was not in the books. The whole storyline of Phrynes sister Jane, came in the TV series, including her abduction and murder at the hands of Murdoch Foyle. None of this was in the books.

reply

thank you... that counter's @Desi's argument...

any idea on the original point?

I have not heard if there was a nod to the shows "Foyles War" (one of my favorites!) Or the "Murdoch Mysteries" show which I also enjoy. If it's not a nod though, it sure is a coincidence!
