Where Are The Martinis?

As much as I admire a whiskey-drinking woman, it's the Jazz Age, right? So where are the Martinis?

reply

Martinis were only big in the US Because of Prohibition, where bathtub gin was often all that was available. In Australia, they would have other options--you'd more likely see a sidecar than a martini.

That seems logical. Thank you.

Also in the books Mr. Butler is a genius mixologist and is always making fancy cocktails for Phryne that perfectly suit the situation. Kerry Greenwood sometimes adds his secret recipes at the end of her books. :)

I read a book by her once about the flu epidemic, and it included a recipe for onion soup at the end of it (the soup they used to nurse the sick). None of the Miss Fisher books I've read had recipes, though.

Worst. Rescue. EVER!

Here's one of my favorites, from Queen of the Flowers:
Mr Butlers refreshing cocktail
From Queen of the Flowers by Kerry Greenwood

1 part cherry brandy
1 part gin
Squeeze of lemon juice
Splash of Cointreau
Sugar syrup to taste
Garnish with cherry

Add club soda for a long drink
Over crushed ice.
