This show should be better than it is

This show had so much potential. I love the concept of Phryne Fisher -- a smart, independent woman way ahead of her time -- but after the first couple of episodes the show definitely lost its way. The sub plot arc with Hugh and Dot is lame; the "tension" between Phryne and Jack Robinson feels contrived; and the plots just meander and wander and eventually get lost, taking the rest of the show with it. So much potential; so much wasted along the way.

Love isn't what you say or how you feel, it's what you do. (The Last Kiss)

I agree wholeheartedly! The show has lost its way! This story of a sanitarium for hysterical women was very weak! And Dot needs to wise up and move on! As well, the tension between Phyrne and Jack is getting quite stale!

Being a big fan of the books, I've always lamented the fact that Lin Chung was only presented as a passing conquest. The Phryne/Lin Chung love affair that is a huge part of the books, held so much potential as an enduring, interesting storyline. I understand taking the story in a direction that creates sexual tension between Phryne and Jack, I would've just preferred the Lin Chung storyline myself though. I do see the series as a separate entity however, and enjoy it as its own thing. I also get that there isn't room in a TV series adaptation for as many characters. While missing those characters from the TV series, I enjoy them by rereading the books, some of which I've read 8 or 9 times...lol!
