Question on Last Episode of Season 1
In the last episode of season 1 did Phryne only pretend to drink the poison? It was never explained and the next scene is at the gravesite. I must have missed something.

shareI've watched Seasons 1-3 multiple times, but for some reason I'm not remembering the scene you're talking about.
Is that the one with Murdock Foyle?

Yes. It's near the end of the episode. Phryne has agreed to sacrifice herself to save the girls. She's in the basement of the building with Foyle and the archeologist. She twice tilts the cup at her lips. She's able to turn Foyle and the archeologist against each other. The next scene is at the gravesite with no explanation.
shareYeah, okay, I seem to recall that. I remember her doing that, but good question because I can't remember, without watching it again, what happened. I remember her "drinking" it, (as you said, bringing it up to her lips, etc.) but as you mentioned, just randomly offhand I don't recall if she faked him out (which is what I'm guessing), or if she swallowed just a small amount and was rescued in time for Mac or Jack to help her out.
Next time I'm watching I'll pay attention and post the observation.

Okay, I just watched that episode. You're exactly right. She tips the cup to her lips twice, and verbally acknowledges she's drank "all of it," the poison. And the archeologist doesn't seem to register anything on his face to dispel her comment. I mean, if he saw liquid still in the cup, he sure didn't say anything.
Then after the ensuing struggle, she grabs a dagger, but as Jack and Jane enter the chamber, Phryne gets all woozy and starts to faint, and Jack scoops her up, carrying her out with Jane following.
Then we see Foyle being led down the stairs into jail with the door closing behind him.
Then as you stated, we're at the grave site with no explanation, and Miss Fisher seems fine, as Hugh is digging up Janey's body (as in, she doesn't seem sick), then we're at the "party" with everyone.
You're correct, there is no elucidation about what happened, if she drank all of it, part of it, if she fainted from the poison or from stress, or whatever may have happened.
I just finished watching so it's quite fresh in my mind, and nothing here is ever explained. She also barely acts woozy after drinking. It seems to take a while to "hit her," if it did, and it was very gradual.

The poison was a paralytic or numbing agent I think. It would make your body numb, so that then Murdoch Foyle could remove the brain. That would be the cause of death, the poison being just a sort of anesthetic. I thought it was the same substance he used on the members of the household, where you could see their eyes moving and registering what was happening but they were paralyzed for a short while and then recovered once it wore off or maybe were given some antidote by Mac or something.
