Reminds me of Murder She Wrote...
but SO much, much more fun!
shareThere was an episode in season one where I was having a 'Murder She Wrote' Deja Vu.

If you're a fan of Phryne as well as Murder She Wrote, check out Patricia Routledge in Hetty Wainthroppe Investigates. Much more similar to Jessica Fletcher than Phryne, to be sure. Very similar.

Yes, first thing I thought, that's why I love it so much.
shareMurder, She Wrote didnt fall off after the first season. Watching MSW, you're a lot more likely to actually be surprised at the end. Also, in the 80's CBS really was dependent on its solid Sunday night ratings. Point? The budget and production values were very good. They didnt sink 75% of the budget into the lead actress' wardrobe.
I enjoyed a lot of the first season, some of the second (not the Christmas episode!), but the third was limping to the barn. I don't think they're will be a movie.
Murder, She Wrote and Poirot are better, IMO.

I watch Poirot and Murder she wrote for the Mysteries. I know the mysteries in Miss Fisher doesn't always make sense but Miss Fisher is not about the mysteries for me. It's all about the great cast and characters - you just care a lot about them. I love how they tackle social and womens issues, the costumes and of course the URST between Phryne and Jack. It never gets boring - at least for me and I'm 5 times through the DVDs. You always discover something new.
Thanks to the show I met a lot of great people and made wonderful friends, for whom I'm very thankful.
While I do like Poirot and Murder she wrote, I love Miss Fisher. If Murder she wrote is on, I will watch it if I haven't seen that episode, I won't if I seen it already.
Miss Fisher is more like Tuppunce from Tommy and Tuppence. I see the comparison with Murder, She Wrote only insofar as both characters outwitted the police, Mrs. Fletcher as a private busybody and Miss Fisher as a professional private detective. Mrs. Fletcher never carried a gun and was quite the opposite of Miss Fisher in her lifestyle -- she was a widow, not a loose woman trying to seduce every man she came in contact with; she had been a teacher and she had worked hard on her writing, and definitely was not a rich floozy. Other than that (and probably a dozen more differences, including the obvious -- wardrobe, hairstyle, the decade represented in the show), the two women/characters/shows are practically the same!
