I still can’t decide if it was brilliantly stupid (in a Sharknado way) or just plain stupid?

shareAs a fan of disaster movies, I thought GeoStorm was kind of fun. It's definitely not one of the best examples of the genre--it's no Twister or Dante's Peak--but it's not one of the worst with. I'd certainly take it over The Core or 2012.
It's a bit of a mess on some levels, but the effects were good and the plot twist genuinely surprised me.
It comes across as though they were conducting last minute junk, after setting their sights too big. We're to believe weather forecasting has become so advanced, Dutch boy works powered by solar panels in space, yet we don't really see in direct point how it causes each particular event. Just a shot of a program from the station, then cut to the city level vs. atmospheric. Unless I've missed something, it gives a fatalistic sense beyond any comprehension what we might think is possible but would it really be from "natural" disaster, or manufactured?
Edit: remembered they do have those microchip sensors deployed into the storm, not sure that explains much
