Do I need to watch the first Thor movie before this one?

My DVR recorded this because it has Zachary Levi in it. I really want to watch it, but I've never seen the first one. Should I watch it first?

For the record, I LOVE Iron Man, especially the first two, but I didn't care for The Avengers, and the third Iron Man was also darker than I like. I'm interested in seeing Civil War and the 2nd Avengers movie. This is the complete list of the Marvel Avenger stuff I've seen. Just to give you an idea of my involvement/interest level, in case they are relevant to my question.

Thanks!

Not really. Well it shows how the guy with the hammer meets the humans and shows him getting hit in the head.

Watch them all in the order they were released.

I would say needing to see Avengers is more important, because more plot threads came from Avengers than from the first Thor.

Yes, but, you would understand The Avengers far better if you watched Thor first. Loki's motivations are far clearer and more understandable after watching Thor. Also, he and Thor's interactions in The Avengers mean more if you've seen the ones in Thor. Also, Thor has the most beautiful ending credits of any movie ever, so it's worth it, just for that. Also, the 'weapons vault' scene between Loki and Odin is amazing.

And, TDW is just vastly inferior to the first one. 😒

Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

reply

Id say watch the first one, it's much better than it's sequel.

If iron man 3 was too dark for you, then I don't know if you'll be able to handle civil war and age of Ultron. Ultron is pretty dark and intense, and civil war is extremely stressful and anxiety-inducing if you care for empathise with both sides of the conflict equally

I'd reccomennd watching Thor, not because it's essential to understanding this movie, but becuase it's an entertaining film. BTW, Zacahry Levi's role is played by an Asian in the first one, and neither of them resembles the comics version of Fandral.

I recommend watching the first movie.

Are you joking? Fandral is played by Joshua Dallas in the first film. He was born in Kentucky, USA, and is not remotely Asian. 

Perhaps you are confusing Fandral and Hogun?

That's my mistake. Hogun was the one was played by an Asian in the first two and will be in the Rganork, but I don't see Fandral in the cast list for that one at all.

reply

No. In fact, you shouldn't watch any of them if you don't want to waste your time.
