Can anybody identify the car— is it an old Jaguar or Volkswagen? or other?

I loved his old Jag - needed a little loving care and hub caps - but it was still a great looking classic - with chrome!

The Jag Mark X was an amazing automobile. First Jag saloon with IRS (a widened version of the E-type's rear end), a very early use of independent rear suspension for any mainstream 4 door automobile from any manufacturer, 4 wheel disc brakes (in 1964, when American iron continued using archaic drum brakes well into the '70s). Replaced by the XJ6 in 1970.

It was interesting the character would pawn his Emmys, torpedo his job, leave his wife and live as a drunk, in a closet, but still hang onto this beautiful car. I liked that touch.
