Mariam's extreme hostility

and hatred for Dan was hard to understand. She was the one who betrayed Dan. She was the one who wanted to leave her husband and her daughter for another man. Not only was she disloyal, she tried to make him think that it was his fault. He was crazy to go back with her.

I didn't get extreme hostility from her, more exasperation and disappointment. You're right, she left him, so of course she's not going to be thrilled every time he comes barging into the house. But they really only got in one fight in their first scene together about him not being there for their daughter, then every other scene she seemed to okay with his presence but annoyed by his current state.

I can see how you might not view this as extreme hostility, just annoyance, but take a look at it again.

Of course she's not going to be thrilled for Dan entering his own house that he paid for. That is what I mean by extreme hostility.

She is the one who makes him leave his own house because she wants him to. She is the one who acts as God and decides when he can and when he can not see his own daughter.

This is blatantly unfair. Cheat on your family, get the house, get the child, get irritated at everything the wronged partner does.

Here here

To me that was poor scripting, it was there to make us think that it was him who left the family.
So there could be a big moment when we found out the truth.

Definitely with you on Miriam, she costed Dan his life (almost as it turns out) and acts like preachy bitch. Deserved to be on the streets really, not living in that house.

I thought the same thing when he said what actually happened.

She should be grateful he still wants "sexy time" with her!

Love is nature's satanic trick to make us reproduce.

Or deliberate scripting, so you think its Keener who was betrayed.

But yeah PH, cheaters are narcissists and as such they are self righteous and blame their actions on their partner's lack of attention, devotion, etc...If only he had done this.

Welcome to the wonderful double standard world of divorce.

Dan wasn't exactly father of the year material. I think her dislike of him was more from how he barely paid attention to his kid.

He's drunk 24/7 but she's the bitch? There was not a single scene where Miriam was out of line; Dan was way over the line the first half of the movie.

reply

Her bitterness was aimed at him because his drinking & attitude affected their relationship. Although She had "fallen in love" with this other guy, Dan hadn't signed an act for 7 years that would have impacted on his self esteem.Drinking & acting like a twit wouldn't help them stay together, he drove his daughter around drunk no one would be happy with that.

reply

I think there was also probably an element of guilt in her attitude. Him being around while it was clear he still loved her was rubbing her poor behavior in her face.

But I think it was all for building the drama so that when he reveals that she was the cheater it would be a surprise. It like cheap gimmick that it was played up like that.
