Selling her music Spoiler Alert

I liked her speech to the record company about why are you taking $9 out of my $10, but to then sell it so cheaply online seems like she's not pursuing this seriously.

she just didn't understand why they were taking so much of her earnings when she's the one (and Dan and the band) who created the album and had the cost etc. she was never really into the money/success side of it, she just wanted her music heard and she certainly didn't want a company who did nothing (but fire dan) to profit from it.

If the music's good more people would be willing to buy the album since it's so cheap. That equals more ears for the music, which leads to more publicity for her. This was an indie semi-polished first album; it's her launching pad. She doesn't need to get rich off of it. Plus it was well stated that she wasn't interested in stardom, she just enjoyed the music. Win win for her if the album got big.

^^^^^This, by shonoffilm.

Artist have done this before -- even an established band sold an album this way, and sales go through the roof if it takes off on word of mouth/goes viral.

She had 10,000 sales in the first 24 hours, they said in the next scene. If she had been signed to the £1 deal with the big label, she wouldn't even be seeing that $10,000 yet due to all of their cut coming first for promotion and marketing costs alone.

Hers is the new model.
