Better than Once?

Just saw the trailer for this and really excited!
I loved Once, the natural and elegant way it was made was such a breath a fresh air and not to mention the music was fantastic!

So has anyone caught some early screening of this?
How was it?

It's not in the same league as Once.
It's a fun, nice movie similar to Chef, but nowhere near the level and quality of Once.
Still a nice film and well worth watching

The Dude: You're not wrong Walter. You're just an a*shole.

The movie itself can actually be better, with a little more script, BUT the thing is... despite the songs are nice and good instrumentals, especially one with mark ruffalos daughter in the movie, they can never match such talent as Glen Hansard.

Glen is a *beep* god as Keira is just a regular singer, Mark Ruffalo is great in this movie, though. Great performance.

I liked Once but I LOVED Begin Again.

It just seemed a little bit more polished (professional actors) and the songs were more varied in style.

Once always kind of made me feel heavy at the end even though there is hope, whereas Begin Again made me feel certain that their best days were to come - a sort of elation with the character of Gretta being strong and independent.

I have watched it a number of times now and I have yet to get sick of it, when I have sat through a second viewing of Once under a bit of sufferance.

Once is much more heartfelt, spontaneous and natural than this movie and the music is also exceptionally better throughout the whole movie. Begin Again has generic music, a good vocal performance by Adam Levine and a polished Hollywood look to it. It’s not too bad but to me it’s not in the same league as Once. I like Keira Knightley in some of her movies but she's below

Good film, but not in the way that Once was a GREAT film.

Yeah, I agree. It didn't soar to the highs as Once. Once was lighting in a bottle type of movie. It's perfect and everything just worked. This was good, solid, but not as special.

I feel like this movie was trying too hard to be a remake of Once. It had a lot of the same themes. One person is being with someone whose wrong for her and another got his heart broken. They have budding moments but nothing comes out of it. Her giving him those cords at the end was like when the guy gave the girl the piano. The truth is, I thought the chemistry between the two leads were so much better in Once than in Begin Again. The chemistry between Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley looked too forced. And the music was better in Once. It was like John Carney was saying "This is the movie I always wanted to make but I didn't have enough money to get A list leads and only average camera equipment." This movie is nothing compared to Once. And here's the proof- yes, both movies had songs that were nominated for Best Song at the Oscars. Big difference is that Once actually won! Boom!

Way better. In fact I said to my wife after watching it that it made 'Once' seem like a joke now that I've seen this movie.

The story is so much more complex. How they almost slept together, but didn't because Steve was there, and ultimately that was the best thing for both of them that they didn't. So many layers and loved how there were parts that backtracked and it was wasn't completely linear.

Best movie I've seen in a long time...
