Just saw the trailer for this and really excited! I loved Once, the natural and elegant way it was made was such a breath a fresh air and not to mention the music was fantastic!
So has anyone caught some early screening of this? How was it?
Once, the Broadway version, is the best version of this story.
Once, the movie, is pretty good.
Begin Again, the movie, is entertaining but too Hollywoodized. Really hated the way Mark Ruffalo's character was written early on, but he wound up with a non-standard arc in this kind of movie and I wound up enjoying it. This movie was a little sloppier than Once, the movie, particularly the editing. Keira Knightley was a pleasure as always, and Adam Levine (whom I only know from an occasional Saturday Night Live appearance) was surprisingly good.
Several people have said this movie was very Hollywood. I agree, but for different reason. I thought this movie was much slicker than Once. Whereas Once has a "shot by the seat of your pants" feel, this was definitely more traditionally produced. I liked them both a lot, but I'd give the edge to Once because it was a small movie that exceeded expectations, while this one, with its big name cast, met expectations.
As for Glen Hansard not being able to sing... the poster who said that critiques movies as well as he spells.
I thoroughly enjoyed both movies but was more moved by Once. Once was a bit more raw and believable. I plan to see Begin Again (again) before it leaves the theater. You can't go wrong with either movie, both of which were very entertaining.
A trillion times better than Once...I read that Once was a great romance movie, but there was no romance in it at all and it was so damn boring...I LOVED Begin Again.
Rodents of Unusual Size?...I don't think they exist.
I really think they are very different movies. Once is about a love story and Begin Again is about two people helping each other in their personal lives through making music. The only thing that bonds both movies is the music. But they are both beautiful!
