I've purchased the soundtrack and her songs are really wonderful - great voice. Hope she does another movie like this - wonderful job.
shareI thought the opposite. She sings just barely over a whisper because she doesn't have the pipes to let loose and really belt songs out (the way a *real* singer will). Even with the heavy autotune, her singing was nothing noteworthy. What they should have done, was pass on the a-list actress with a "meh" voice, and instead go with a relative unknown, but who has a great voice. Movie would have been so much better if the star could rally sing.
There are plenty a list actresses that sing like hell:
Anne Hathaway, Emmy Rossum and Amanda Seyfried for examples.
So I thought she was the wrong pick. But in the end I enjoy her singing and was surprise that she could deliver it gracefully.

I agree. She has a nice voice and can (apparently) carry a tune. May not have the power and range of a professional singer but I enjoyed listening.

She was doing singer songwriter indie music, where soft voices and emotive tones contribute to authenticity of emotional content of the song. Belting it out would have been wrong for the songs and the character, and she did a fantastic job of delivering great vocals within the genre style.

Shows that a good producer can take just about anyone , match them with good material and make them sound like a star. And I'm still talking about her singing.
I thought the singing was dubbed over by a pro. It doesn't sound like her speaking voice
