The movie did not tell the entire story in respect to Lauda dropping of of the race. True he considered it too dangerous to race, but so did many drivers including James Hunt who lobbied for the race to be canceled. However that was not they only reason Lauda dropped out. What was completely left out of the movie was that as a result of his burns he could not blink, and his damaged tear ducts caused his eyes water continually so he could barely see. Plus he was a a lot further back in the pack then the movie makes it seem. So it was all that in addition to the conditions that made him drop out. Also not shown in the movie drivers John Watson, Emerson Fittipaldi, Carlos Pace and Larry Perkins also decided to drop out due to the conditions.

Ok, but he still punked out

He also lived to win two more titles.

You mean the Ashton Kutcher show?

reply

He'd never make it at Thunder Road.
As the sequence with his girlfriend on the Sunday drive (when they later pick up the hitch hikers) demonstrates, Nikki wouldn't give a rat's arse about Thunder Road. He doesn't have to prove any thing.🐭
