Except there's no sex, no flashbacks, no dream sequences, no gore, no long tracking shots... and pretty much zero suspense.
But there are plenty of homages to Hitchcock, including the necessary blonde female protagonist, a Herrmann-like soundtrack and IMO, plenty of suspense. One could definitely imagine De Palma giving this film two thumbs up.🐭 reply share
I could see the similarities to Ripley immediately and I didn't know who wrote the book it was based on. Have seen Purple Noon and it was mediocre and banal. The character was totally empty and blank. Alain Delon is infinitely better in L'Eclisse by Michelangelo Antonioni.
Yes you have a point - the movie did have a De Palma atmosphere, even though he probably would have made a better job. Not that I didn't like it but something is missing - good not great.
