My Quick Apology to Lily Collins

After seeing an early press screening, I gotta say this:

I take back a lot of the mean things I've said about Lily Collins. Because her role in "Rules Don't Apply", is amazing. The film itself is a real mixed bag, but everyone in it, including Lily, hit a home run with their performances. This is the first time I have ever seen Lily make an actual effort to play a character. She is actually believable here, and has great chemistry with the future Han Solo, Alden Ehrenreich. In fact, the entire cast is a lot of fun to watch.

Lily, I forgive you. You have finally proven to me that you can turn in a good performance in a film. I am looking forward to your future projects.

Side note: I want to hear more of Lily singing.

... totally agree; you can see some of my other posts here, but she really captures that sense of youthful energy and joyful enthusiasm that one tends to have as a seventeen or eighteen-year old coming out of high school, along with the caution and tempered innocence of someone new to life, coming out of a fairly conservative upbringing. And then, when those two tracks collide, her responses feel spontaneous and real—slightly heightened for comedic effect, in keeping with the film's tone, but credible and compelling.

The overall casting really works well, yet Rules Don't Apply is indeed "a real mixed bag." We seem to have seen the film the same way.

I never thought she was a bad actress. She just picks bad roles and star is horrible films. She needs a new agent.
