What did the mountain lion symbolise?

Anyone have any idea what the mountain in Jesse's motel room is supposed to represent? It's kind of silly to have one just randomly sneak into an LA hotel room, so I'm assuming it's some kind of metaphor.

It represents the predators that Jesse unwittingly let in. Let's just say it represents Ruby and the other girls. The fact it got in due to Jesse's negligence is symbolic as to what's to come.

But the way it happens, it leads the audience to believe it wasn't Jesse's fault in the beginning. But as Keanu's character points out, he didn't leave the backdoor open and neither did Deen so it is, in fact Jesse's fault.

Just like what happens to Jesse. Initially you'd think it's everyone out to get her and in some ways it is, but Jesse is the one who left her guard down.

The director came out as saying the 3 girls are indeed witches and the mountain lion was one of the witches in animal predator form

That's great cuz this was my impression !

Did Refn really say this ? Links?

Also as far as who was at fault as to who let it in, I have an alternate theory. I don't believe Jessie acidently left the sliding door open; I theorize that Ruby put it in there. I realize that sounds kinda far out there; but this film Does have some pretty far out ideas/scenes. Especially envolving the Ruby character, who before reading what Refn said in this thread, I was going to say my theory on what the mountain lion symbolized, was Ruby herself.
Actualy it Still could represent her still if NWR said it does in fact represent One of the girls. My reason is look at All the predatory animals that are stuffed all around Ruby's house. Or if you believe what Ruby said, the house she's "house sitting," which I do not believe her and think it Is in fact her house. But hey that's another theory entirely!, ha. Thats one of the reasons I gave T.N.Demon my personal top/#1 pick for best/favorite film of 2016; there's a Lot it makes you think about!!

The mountain lion symbolized the devil entering her life.

1 Peter 5:8
"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour"

In the end, she was literally devoured. Get it?

Hank = (predatory loner) mountain lion (she literally lets him in)
Ruby = (predatory pack) Alpha-female (the scene where she sits with the wolf in the background.)

The above posters echo my thoughts, but when Fanning is walking through the house after Jena Malone came onto her, their is a stuffed lion in the background so that just rammed it home that these girls were predators and out to 'eat' Fanning.
