I could tell in the first scene this was going to be a really dumb movie, with no basis in the real world. If you like movies about life in a parallel universe where nothing makes any sense, you'll enjoy the human reasoning in this film.
Serious note: While I'm sure, if there is a such thing as parallel universes, this probably happened there too. But that doesn't stop the fact that situations such as this did happen.
I'm going to assume they took extreme "creative license" with the true story and just made it this ridiculous movie. Which is sad, it takes away from any connection to reality it had.
Actually, the real events included far more sexual abuse than what what seen in the film. This movie actually attempts to tone that down
I hate to say it but......only in America
This is a country where people believe the world is 6 thousand years old and that the baby Jesus made dinosaurs.....plus it has a strong culture of obedience and reverence for authority (we pledge allegiance to the blah)
And lets not forget that the caller targets fast food places (not populated with the most highly educated, intellectually curious individuals)
Painbow.... Kind of a dick thing to say. I'm assuming you're making a sweeping generalization about the US but it's possibly the dumbest thing I've ever seen posted on here.
You know something funny? In every country people say "only in... my country". Which is always false. You just need to have been abroad for some time to understand this.

In other words, you choose to be willfully ignorant. That is easier than actually taking the time to do the research, which isn't that hard to do, and you would learn that this incident really did happen, pretty much as the movie shows. The most unbelievable parts, like the jumping jacks and the blow job, really did happen. The main liberty they took, to the detriment of the movie imo, was to make "Becky" sullen and annoyed, instead of showing her as she was in real life: crying and begging to be taken to the police station.

I agree with you. She was looking bored most of the time when she was probably inconsolable IRL. And I always wondered if the girl in the real story told "Sandra" (IRL "Donna") what the man on the phone was making her do?
