yes, an assault occurred, but not one out of malice or one that was premeditated...
I really can't beleive we're at the point where some one can illicit sympathy for a crime by claiming to be so stupid they didn't know they committed a crime. And even then Nix knew what he was doing was wrong cause he kept throwing the apron back on the girl every time his fiance entered the office as if he was trying to conceal his behavior. He was totally taking advantage of the situation.
"Sounds to me like the real police were using (in quite a similar fashion as the fake LEO) him and the situation, deliberately, to get what they want."
In criminal cases the police arn't allowed to make legal deals with suspects. Only a prosecutor can offer a deal. Police and detectives can lie to you though and claim they are offering a deal which if your smart should know that indicates they are either being lazy by trying to get a confession out of you or don't have any real evidence so they need your confession to build a case.
I agree the prosecutors used him but I also believe Nix was completly aware that he was doing something illegal and took advantage of the situtation just by the fact that he would keep throwing the apron on the girl the moment some one was unlocking the office door.
