Great. Just great.
Look - not every single movie that comes along has to be revolutionary. It's damned difficult to create something that not only borrows nothing from its predecessors, but has value - in the way that a piece of music will usually follow some norms and rules, and this will be heard in a context of understanding what the composer was driving at. Books? Same thing. In Automata, we have a fantastically good yarn, and terrifically produced effects and atmosphere. It is a beautiful movie - with many small touches that enhance the overall effect.
(My personal favorite is Jaque's dance with Cleo).
Yes, there are a few plot holes, some clichés, and some well worn paths are trod. So what? The plot holes should have been plugged, but oh well, I can still appreciate what has been done here.
Actually loved the movie - 8 stars from me.
